Aussiblue I Palmetto I Plateau I Wintergreen Couch

Aussiblue comes from the Digitaria Didactyla family (as is Queensland Blue) and has been developed in Queensland for the Queensland environment.  Aussiblue is PBR** listed and Wide Bay Turf is the licenced producer for the Wide Bay region.  Aussiblue has a number of attractive features including:

Bright Green Colour
Aussiblue has the brightest colour out of all the turf varieties.

Soft Leaf
Aussiblue has a broader leaf than Queensland Blue and is extremely soft to touch, but still has good wear resistance.  Aussiblue invites being walked on by bare feet and rolled on by children.

Dense Dominant Growth

Aussiblue is a dominant turf that forms a dense thick lawn.

Weed Resistant

Due to its dominant growth, Aussiblue tends to crowd out weeds more than other varieties.

Lawn Grub Resistant

Aussiblue has proven to be less susceptible to the lawn grubs that often affect other varieties.

Palmetto comes from the St Augustine (Soft Leaf Buffalo) family and has proven itself across Australia from Perth to Sydney and Melbourne to Cairns and certainly in the Wide Bay Region.  It is PBR** listed and Wide Bay Turf is licensed to supply the Wide Bay area.  Palmetto has a number of strong features, including:

Shade Tolerance
Palmetto is suited to both sun and shade and requires just 2 to 3 hours of direct sun per day.  As a result, one variety can be used for your whole lawn whether under trees, or in full sun.

Winter Colour
Unlike other Buffalo varieties, Palmetto holds its colour during the winter months.  Other Buffalo varieties tend to yellow off during the cooler part of the year.

Rapid Repair
Palmetto shows strong horizontal growth characteristics resulting in faster repair if the lawn is damaged (dogs, regular foot traffic etc).

Soft Leaf
Unlike the Buffalo varieties of old, Palmetto has been developed with a softer leaf resulting in a lovely lawn for children to play on without the ‘scratchiness’.

Efficient Water Use
Palmetto develops a comprehensive root system once established.  This means that it takes full advantage of the water available.

Plateau is an improved strain of the Cynodon Dactylon family of lawn grasses developed in Australia.  It is PBR listed and Wide Bay Turf is the licenced producer for the Wide Bay area.  Plateau has a number of strong features, including:

Ideal Feature Lawn

Plateau makes an ideal feature lawn due to:

  • Horizontal growth results in a tight dense lawn that is almost carpet like in texture.
  • Fine Leaf
  • Rich dark colour
  • Because it grows well in both sun and shade, you only need to use one variety and have an attractive uniform lawn
Shade Tolerance

Plateau is suited to both sun and shade and will tolerate up to 60% shade.  As a result, one variety can be used for your whole lawn whether under trees, or in full sun.

Lower Maintenance

Plateau is a lower maintenance lawn due to its natural growth characteristics.  Whereas most turf varieties grow both horizontally and vertically, Plateau is unique in that it naturally grows horizontally.

Hardiness

Plateau has proven to be an extremely hardy variety of turf, being used successfully in ultra high traffic areas such as childcare centres, schools and in park areas.  It withstands punishment well and repairs quickly due to its horizontal growth.

Wintergreen is the first of the ‘new breed’ of improved Couch’s developed to provide better performance than common and native Couch’s.   Wintergreen is the most widely used turf variety due to:

Versatility
Wintergreen is an extremely versatile turf variety.  It has been used for applications from house yards, to sporting ovals, to bowling greens, to lawn tennis courts to roadside drains.  It tends to respond to the treatment it is given and as such can make for an extremely attractive fine leafed lawn or a robust turf used for erosion control.

Drought Tolerance
Wintergreen is the most drought tolerant of the turf varieties.  Although there is much fanfare and marketing hype about the drought tolerance of some of the higher profile varieties, scientific trials show that varieties from the Cynodon Dactylon family e.g. Wintergreen and Plateau have the strongest drought tolerance of the turf varieties.

Fast Recovery / Hardiness
Wintergreen recovers well from damage caused by regular walk areas, rough treatment on a sporting field or by animals.  Wintergreen does not grow well in shady areas and requires a minimum of 80% sunlight for best growth.

Emerald Green Colour
Wintergreen has lovely emerald green colour and medium fine leaf.

Winter Colour
As per its name, Wintergreen holds its colour better during the cooler winter months.

Budget
Wintergreen is the most economically priced of our varieties

** PBR (Plant Breeder Rights) are exclusive rights to a registered turf variety.  Buying a PBR protected variety ensures that the customer is supplied with a product that is the same whether it is supplied from a registered  grower in Brisbane or in the Wide Bay region.   PBR tested varieties have unique characteristics that provide ongoing benefit to the end customer.
